Driver Loses Control During BF & GF Fight, Pedestrian Injured: Verulam – KZN

South Africa: One of the weird cases has been reported in which police arrested a Toyota car driver after he ran over a pedestrian on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) members were called out to a business premise at approximately 15:28 to provide medical aid to the injured pedestrian. On arrival, the 44-year-old woman was located on the driveway of a spares shop.

RUSA team watched the CCTV footage in which they observed the Toyota Yaris travelling up Ireland Street when it suddenly turned into the opposite lane and struck the pedestrian who was walking on the pavement.

After the whole inquiry, the driver of the vehicle told Reaction Officers that he was involved in a heated argument which turned physical with his partner when she grabbed the steering wheel.

The vehicle turned across the road and struck the pedestrian before it crashed into a fence. The driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest.

Moreover, the injured pedestrian was stabilised on the scene before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
