Botswana: The newly elected President of Botswana Duma Gideon Boko has extended his support to the education Ministry. He recently attended a much anticipated Kgotla Meeting in his home village where he outlined some of his plans.
In his address, he had addressed the people of Botswana that they will be prioritizing Children’s Welfare. The Minister of Child welfare and Basic Education Kebuang Nono Kgafela -Mokoka and the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education Elizabeth Bonolo Khumotaka attended the Kgotla Meeting.
The president spoke at Mahalapye during his first Kgotla Meeting. This was the first time that he was addressing the people of his village after assuming the office of President.
President Boko highlighted some of the most important plans which will be implemented by the Child Welfare Ministry.
The list of the initiatives includes free provision of napkins, milk and others for 3 months from childbirth. He highlighted further that the mothers will receive P300 monthly as Child upkeep allowance.
The President said mothers can go through financial challenges due to different circumstances they face in life.The challenges sometimes affect child growth and development. This is why the Government believes that it is very important to play a meaningful role in addressing this issue.
Under his administration, President Boko announced that they will be constantly supporting the mothers.
The new president also announced that basic education is an integral part in the learning process. In line with this, the Ministry will prioritize providing early childhood quality education.
Government will provide kindergarten education “creche” to ensure proper take off from grass root level. This is meant to close the gap between the “haves and the have nots” in terms of affordability to pay for privately owned creches.
The Gathering was also assured of improved learning facilities as some schools have dilapidated classrooms which have the potential to hinder performance. Schools across the country will be provided with enough furniture for student use.
President Duma Gideon Boko has promised to donate 2000 textbooks to Madiba Senior Secondary School and 1000 text books to Tamocha Primary School both in Mahalapye. He promised to deliver the donation within a week’s time.
The President also assured decent meals for the students as opposed to the current menu. He highlighted that they will make sure that children will be fed with proper nutritious meals twice a day. This was described as an enabler to the learning process.
President Boko thanked his former schools of Tamocha Primary School and Madiba Senior Secondary School for showcasing top notch talent as they recited poems for him.
