Eastern Cape human settlements department partners with municipalities in registration process of projects

Africa: Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe, has committed in ensuring the quick issuing of title deeds in the province as part of restoring the dignity of low-cost housing beneficiaries.

This is as the department commits to tightening working relations with municipalities in the province during the registration of projects to ensure a smooth running in the issuing of title deeds.

Among the beneficiaries is 90-year-old Regina Nombulelo Mlenzana.

The teary Mama uMlenzana couldn’t contain her excitement. “I have been long waiting for this day. I wish my late husband was still alive. Now I can proudly say this is my house. I’m so happy.” said Mlenzana.

The department is expected to hand over at least eight thousand title deeds this financial year. MEC Kontsiwe says the department will ensure that these targets are realized.

“We have an obligation to ensure that our beneficiaries receive official documentation to their homes. This is why we will work for hand in glove with municipalities. This program is one of our key priorities as it speaks to the restoration of our people’s dignity.” said Kontsiwe.

The department has implemented the Title Deed Restoration Program as part of tracking beneficiaries and fastening the issuing of title deeds in the province.
