EFF says, act of Marshall Dlamini was ‘REVOLUTIONARY’

South Africa:  The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) raised a case against Marshall Dlamini ‘vindictive and attempted to criminalise the party leadership’ imprisonment and got suspended for five years. Dlamini has maintained his innocence by saying in his verse that he was acting out of self-defence.

Reportedly, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has described the case of an assault on a police officer by their secretary-general – Marshall Dlamini as ‘REVOLUTIONARY’.

According to the reports, on Friday, Dlamini was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment and got suspended for five years for assaulting a police officer with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

As per the sources, Dlamini has a past criminal record. During 2019, State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, a case was registered to his name, that he slapped the police officer during a scuffle, which was widely circulated.

EFF noted Cape Town regional court’s sentence and its spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys insisted that he has done no wrong.

The spokesperson stated that the rationale system used by the court in its sentencing reaffirms the view that the case in its entirety was vindictive and also is part of a broader attempt to provoke and then criminalise the leadership of the EFF political party.

Adding to his statement Mathys said, “It is our firm view that there was a predetermined agenda to prevent the EFF leadership from executing its legislative responsibilities at the SONA on that day and the prevention was physical.”

However, Dlamini has maintained his innocence despite being convicted and sentenced. Dlamini also gave his statement in defence and said that what is appearing as a threat, was actually an act done in defence.

Updating more on the case he said that the magistrate has sentenced them to an 18-month suspended sentence and a fine of R6,000 for defending the revolution in South Africa.

Dlamini cleared at his part that what happened on that day during the State of the Nation Address and what they did there, for that they have got no regrets. “So, I’ve been found guilty of assault,” he stated.
