Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire has invited the people of the country to participate in National Storyboard Competition.

Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Tourism has invited the people of the country to participate in National Storyboard Competition. The competition is designed to invite Storyboards to inform design of Saint Lucia’s First Underwater Sculpture Park.

The Ministry of Tourism, Investment et al has announced that the sculpture park will be constructed along the west coast. The competition is being hosetd to encourage the people of Saint Lucia to tap into their creative prowess and come up with ideas for the sculpture park.

The construction aims to pay homage to the history and heritage of the country. At the same time, the government wants to make sure that the people of Saint Lucia have a say in the overall design and concept of the structure.

The aim of the initiative is to make sure that all the Saint Lucians can claim that the underwater park is a part of their vision for their nation. Deputy PM Ernest Hilaire highlighted that the competition is a component of the Unleashing the Blue Economy of the Caribbean (UBEC) Project.

Through the competition, the Ministry wants to to develop underwater sculptures along the west coast of the island. These sculptures must be themed around areas of culture, heritage and historical significance to Saint Lucia.

The organization wants to make the underwater sculpture park into a popular destination among the tourists. With the construction of the sculpture park, they want to market the island as a premier dive and snorkelling destination.

The competition aims to:

  1. Encourage participation of Saint Lucians in the curation and conceptualisation of a heritage and culture enriched story or stories which will inform the design(s) of the underwater sculpture park.
  2. Encourage innovation and creativity in the development of the underwater sculptures to ensure the most unique representation of Saint Lucia’s dive product.

The competition has started on 5 June, 2024 and will run for three (3) weeks. The deadline for all submissions is 26 June, 2024 at 4:30pm. The submissions have to be made to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Investment et al.

The government wants to construct three separate underwater sculpture parks along the Saint Lucian west coast. The participants must use one theme (Culture or Heritage or History) in three  different stories for each of the three sites

Alternately, they can make use of the  three themes for three individual stories (one theme per story) to inform storyboard(s) for three sites.

The themes must be representation of either Saint Lucia’s culture, heritage and history. The competition is open to all the citizens of Saint Lucia upwards of the age of 10 years.
