Cameroon: The National Football team of Cameroon ‘FECAFOOT’ has released a press note urging the people not to spread false rumours about the team or any of its related members. The fake news has spread to the extent that it has led to quarrels between the manager-selector and the president of the federation.

In the official press release, the General Secretary – Blaise DJOUNANG mentioned, “It has come to our attention that an alarming amount of false news and unfounded rumours about the Indomitable Lions are circulating on information platforms.”

The General Secretary explained that the rumours have affected the national team and its staff, “These crudely crafted ‘fake news’ stories have the potential to destabilize the national team, its technical staff and its administrative support staff.”

“In particular, this malicious enterprise has interfered with communications regarding the temporary unavailability of Captain Vincent ABOUBAKAR. It is also behind false interviews maliciously attributed to the President of FECAFOOT – Samuel ETO’O FILS,” added the General Secretary.

As per the sources, the latest productions of the disinformation agencies not only generated conflict between the manager-selector and the president of the federation but has also allegedly led to the exclusion of several federal personnel information from the delegation in Yamoussoukro.

Considering the latter, the FECAFOOT likes to remind the public that the team has established a rotation system that allows its staff to physically participate in international competitions, especially in CAN Total Energies 2023.

Reportedly, the trips will take place in successive waves as the first delegation has arrived on Jan 14 to coincide with entry into the competition. The second delegation arrived on the 17th for the second match and the third one is planned for the final group match.

Moreover, the rotation will continue depending on the performance of the Indomitable Lions in the competition.

Meanwhile, referring to the risk of misinformation, FECAFOOT urges Indomitable Lions fans to be more vigilant and aware of misleading content. The team officials have asked the fans to seek information from the right sources.

The team has called on users of social networking sites to contribute through their goodwill and sense of restraint to preserve the serenity of the competitors.
