Free State honors Nelson Mandela with Mandela Month

The Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) will lead a Provincial Mandela Month programme in the honor of the revolutionary first president of South Africa

South Africa: The Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) will lead a Provincial Mandela Month programme in the honor of the revolutionary first president of South Africa. The celebration will be held under the theme: “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity”.

The programme will be taken to various hospital across the province on Friday, July 26. The leaders of the Free State province, including MECs will also participate in the Mandela Month Programme.

In honor of Mandela Month, The provincial government of Free State remembered the words of the former president. He was at the time, addressing the widespread inequality and poverty in the nation.

According to Mandela, slavery and apartheid, poverty are not natural states of the universe and are manmade. Accordingly, man can work towards eradicating the same through his own efforts.

The leaders of Free state claimed that these inspirational words by the late former President, are a reminder that we must collectively do more to fight the scourge of poverty and inequity.

“This initiative to hospitals, reaffirms our commitment to addressing pressing issues in  our society. Together, we can make a tangible difference and honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela through meaningful action and community service,” said the Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae.

The Premier has asked the Members of the Executive Council (MECs), to visit various hospitals across Free State Districts. The MECs will work on resolving maintenance issues, reviving hospital infrastructure and collectively addressing challenges in the health sector.

“As we celebrate Nelson Mandela Month, we must be reminded of the importance of giving back to our communities and taking responsibility and ownership for the good upkeep, preservation and protection against vandalism and theft. Our hospitals are our community assets, they must be kept in a good state so that they can always serve the health care needs of all our people. They are in need of revitalization, and we are committed to making this happen, by working together in making a difference in the lives of our people,” said Premier Letsoha-Mathae.

This hands-on approach aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people, aligning with the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy.
