South Africa: Member of the Executive Council of Free State responsible for Social Development, Tshidi Koloi, held discussions with the Minister Plenipotentiary (Deputy Ambassador) of Zimbabwe to South Africa, Shephard Gwenzi, in Bloemfontein today, 22 March 2023.
The discussions centred around the roll out of the ZEP (Zimbabwe Exemption Permit) and the mobile consular exercises to be undertaken to register the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders who are intending to return to Zimbabwe.
MEC Koloi said the repatriation of Zimbabwean nationals to their home country must be done in a sensitive manner, and consideration must be given to the vulnerable.
According to MEC Koloi, “We must be sensitive and prioritize the protection of women and children from Zimbabwe. Some of these children do not go to school and could be in danger of exploitation. It is important to remember that our brothers and sisters from Zimbabwe are here because of the socio-economic situation in their country and not for any other reason.”
Furthermore, MEC stated, “Therefore, we must demonstrate compassion when addressing these matters.”
Moreover, Minister Gwenzi said the Zimbabwean government has ensured that children staying in South Africa receive a quality education by ensuring the payment of basic education for their compatriots in eight out of nine provinces.
He further said there was potential for the two countries to Forster working relationships in the manufacturing, mining, tourism and agricultural sectors.
As per the sources from Free State province, Deputy police and half of the police team were also present there at the meeting.
And the Commissioner in the Free State province, Major General Lesia. The SAPS reiterated its commitment to supporting foreign nationals within the security cluster and the embassy for their mission. Moreover, many other people also attended the meeting, including locals, farmers and businessmen.
Yesterday, Free State Province also held the EXCO conference, which was organized by the newly composed Free State Provincial Government Executive Council (EXCO), and their aim was to “induction at OR Tambo House in Bloemfontein”.
