Malawi: Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, the Premier of Free State has been working diligently to improve the state of Municipalities in the province. The Premier of Free State told the Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke that the municipality will in a better condition than before.
The Premier said that the unprofessional behaviour rampant in the Municipality will be brought to an end. The authorities have shared that Auditor General met Premier Letsoha-Mathae and her team.
The team consisted of Speaker of the Free State Legislature Mxolisi Dukwana and Members of the Executive Council. The meeting was hosted at OR Tambo House in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 08 April 2015.
The Auditor-General noted that one of the reasons that failure to uphold accountability is a major reason for the disappointed situation in the Municipalities. The organizations continue to be run by corrupt officials who are not asked to report their work.
The Auditor-General of Free State said that his breeds a culture of latitude, which increased time taken to complete work at local government.
She has called out the leadership of the institutions for their failure to implement consequence management. The failure which in turn has led to a number of municipalities in a dire state.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae said that consequence management has not been effectively implemented. However, she promised that government will deal with corrupt officials in a decisive manner. The delays caused by t conduct delays progress and worst, leaves communities worse off.
The people are living in an extremely bad situation and are not able to get access to basic services in some instances because of some corrupt officials.
The goevrenment of Free state has promised the people that they will provide them better services and will do away with any officers who are a barrier to this committment.
Speaker Dukwana said the administration is all set to improve its oversight work through its various committees. They will continue to monitor performance improvement.
