Botswana: Gaborone City Council (GCC) has resumed the 4 days councillors induction for the benefit of the administration. The leaders have shared some images from the induction programme on their social media.
The aim of the programme was to allow the newly elected councillors to get familiar with their roles. They were also given the opportunity to learn about the various regulations and general procedures that govern their work.
The Gaborone City Council is burdened with the most work in terms of administration as the capital of Botswana. It is, accordingly, crucial for
Kgosi Kenneth Thari of Block 8 Customary Court welcomed and offered his best wishes to councillors on their new journey. He hoped that they as honourable members. He said one of the most important aspect of their work is to clearly know and understand what their roles are in the city council. He said that this can help them to focus and deliver to those who they have been entrusted to.
Kgosi Thari urged councillors to remain disciplined as they did their duties learn from each other. He asked the councillors to work together for the benefit of Gaborone City and the country at large.
GCC Town Clerk Mr Lopang Pule gave the councillors an in-depth training on council structures and how they operate on daily basis. He highlighted that the induction is meant to appreciate the legal framework governing councils and their mandate.
He also added that the induction process will help the officers in learning the relationship between central and local government. It will also help them appreciate the planning process at both national and local level.
In addition, Pule emphasized the need for the councillors to work together with council staff to build a strong team which will contribute immensely to the council and the country’s long term developmental goals.
The induction also covered the council’s priorities and initiatives to be implemented to address challenges around the city. The induction helped the team familiarize themselves in the new duties that they were assuming.
