Gaborone High Court grants law officers bail in robbery case

Law enforcement officers accused of robbing a civilian by the name of Zororai Dube have been granted a bail by Gaborone High Court.

Botswana: Law enforcement officers accused of robbing a civilian by the name of Zororai Dube have been granted a bail. The three law officers in question allegedly serve in the Directorate of Intelligence Services, Botswana Defence Force Military Police and regional police forces respectively.

Investigating officers have identified the four suspects involved in the robbery. The Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) agent has been identified as 36-year-old Oteng Motlamma.

The three suspects have been charged with robbery and were presented at the Gaborone High court. Judge  Motswagole of the Gaborone High Court has granted bail to the suspects before their trial on their recognizance in the sum of P2500 each.

The Gaborone High Court has also asked the suspects to provide surities who shall bond themselves with the sum of P1000 each. The court has also asked the suspects to report themselves at Naledi Police Station on the last Friday of each month between 0730hrs and 1630hrs.

The trio have been charged with robbery. The police officers have shared some details of the incident. According to the official reports, the incident happened on or around February 7, 2024.

The accused persons allegedly robbed Zororai Dube of a silver cell phone worth P4000, another cell phone worth P2600, and cash amounting to P2700. The suspects have not been to trial till date.

Meanwhile, the people of the country have shared their views on the situation and shared that they find it odd. Notably, all the individuals who are involved in the robbery incident are all law enforcement agency.

Some social media users shared that they feel that they are not safe in the country after the incident came to light. They believe If it were civilians, the suspects would not have gotten bails and they would be rejected.
