Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Waste Management – Alderman Grant Twigg praised the residents, visitors and the city staff for their shared commitment to keep Cape Town clean during the busy festive period of year 2025.
Reportedly, the festive season traditionally places the increased pressure on waste collection services as thousands of visitors use beaches, parks and public spaces.
During the festive period, refuse volumes rise across the several areas. Despite of these demands, many neighbourhoods remained clean and welcoming, thanks to cooperation shown by the residents, visitors and city teams.
Alderman Twigg said that the level of cooperation shown by the communities during the 2025 festive period has been encouraging. When residents play their part and the city services are supported, they are able to deliver the cleaner and safer environments for everyone.
He also acknowledged the dedication of City staff who worked throughout the festive period to ensure the continued services.
Twigg further stated that the waste management teams worked tirelessly during one of the busiest times of the year. Their commitment, professionalism and resilience clearly ensured that essential services would continue, even under the increased pressure.
Notably, some of the service backlogs and complaints were reported during the peak periods, as these have been logged and are receiving attention with teams. They were deployed to address the outstanding issues as soon as possible.
Alderman Grant Twigg urged the residents to remain vigilant as the festive season continues to dispose the waste responsibly and support the community clean-up initiatives, wherever possible.
Twigg further concluded his statement in a positive note and marked that by working together, they can maintain the service delivery standards and ensured that Cape Town remains a clean and welcoming city throughout the festive season and beyond.
He expressed that keeping the city clean and green will benefit the residents. As it will attract more tourism and will further initiate towards healthy environment.
