KwaZulu Natal, Mawothi: The driver of a Black VW Polo was stabbed during a hijacking in KwaZulu Natal, Mawothi, on Thursday afternoon.
This incident was brought to the attention of Reaction Unit South Africa officers by one of the passersby, who contacted Reaction Unit Officers and requested help for the victim.
After the call was received, Reaction Unit officers were immediately dispatched and arrived at the location. They met with the victim, who worked as an e-hailing driver, and then the victim explained the situation to the officers.
He said his job is to pick up customers from the Whitehouse in Phoenix – KZN and transport them to a primary school in Mawothi – KZN. As per the driver, he was driving and about to reach the destination when four men jumped into the vehicle and started demanding valuables and instructed him to drive to an unpaved road.
Then, the victim refused to coordinate with them, which resulted in an altercation during which he was stabbed in his right hand.
The suspects forced him out of the car and sped off. Reaction Officers set out in search of the vehicle and recovered it abandoned in the nearby vicinity. The front bumper, battery, R1000 in cash and the victim’s cellphone were stolen.
However, residents blame the police and government for this crime as they believe they failed to protect the man and gave freedom to criminals to break the country’s law.
“It’s very clear that Cele Hawks police and Ramaphosa have failed the rule of law; that’s why criminals have freedom,” said one of the residents, Sanjay Maharaj.
