South Africa: Free State Department of Treasury has convened a PFMA Audit Committee Forum at Kopano Nokeng, on the outskirts of Bloemfontein.

The fundamental objective of the Forum is to promote prudent financial management; curb unauthorized, irregular and fruitless expenditure within government departments and municipalities.

Furthermore, the Forum seeks to strengthen accountability and inspire public confidence in public institutions.

The formation and functioning of the Forum will also create interdependency between departments, consistent with the District Development Model (DDM), which pursues a coordinated approach to service delivery across the spheres of government.

This approach to good governance paints a vivid picture of how the actions of one department have a profound impact on the health and proper functioning of the interrelated parts, i.e. sister departments and municipalities alike.

Premier Sisi Ntombela welcomed the presentation by the Office of the Auditor General; the preliminary report sights a significant improvement from the province’s audit outcomes.

An improvement is indicative of a clear appetite to improve, thus implementing recommendations by the AG and a will to subscribe to legislation and principles of good governance.

“With the better implementation of consequence management recommendations by the AG, Free State would be in an even better position” Office of the Auditor General.

Following a very encouraging PFMA Audit Committee Forum, EXCO, led by the Premier, proceeded to a meeting with the Provincial Council on Aids (PCA) held at OR Tambo House in Bloemfontein.
