South Africa: One person was injured in a collision involving two vehicles on the R102 in the vicinity of Mt. Edgecombe – KZN last night (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on the scene at approximately 19:56 and discovered a silver Toyota Corolla lying on its roof in the northbound lane while an extensively damaged red Nissan Almera has located in the southbound lane.
It was established that both vehicles were travelling in the direction of Umhlanga – KZN when the collision occurred. The Toyota Corolla veered across the centre median and overturned.
The driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested by Police.
A female from the Nissan Almera sustained injuries and was treated by Medics from a private ambulance service.
A similar incident occurred on the same day in Waterloo after a Toyota Hilux bakkie overturned after crashing down an embankment on Itheku Road in Waterloo – KZN, this morning (Sunday). However, no injuries were reported in this incident.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene at approximately 01:05.
On arrival, RUSA Members discovered the bakkie lying on its side metres away from a house. The driver was believed to be intoxicated.
The cases of accidents in the province are increasing with each passing day, and it is reported that people are not paying attention anymore to their driving skills.
Most accidents occur due to the driver’s carelessness or in the influence of alcohol.
