Kenya Airport Authority welcomes Nigerian Delegation for JKIA Cargo Benchmarking

Kenya: Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) is honoured to host a delegation from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s Aviacargo Roadmap Committee, which is in Kenya for a benchmarking visit to assess cargo facilities and business practices at JKIA.

The KAA Ag. MD, Henry Ogoye, and other key KAA team members engaged in constructive dialogues with their esteemed Nigerian counterparts. To provide an in-depth view of the cargo operations, the delegation was taken on a tour of prominent cargo facilities at JKIA, including DHL, Swissport Kenya, and Airflow Logistics. Their keen interest and shared knowledge truly epitomize the spirit of collaboration within the African aviation community.

In a heartwarming gesture, recognising the efforts to elevate the aviation cargo sector in Africa, our General Manager for Marketing & Business Development, Jacob Bwana, was presented with the “African Aviacargo Champion 2023” award.

Such engagements reinforce commitment to excellence, mutual growth, and fostering stronger ties within the African aviation landscape.

A few days back, Kenya Airport Authority inaugurated a flight of Skyward Express from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the newly renovated Migori Airstrip, heralding a new chapter in regional air travel.

The event was graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, and attended by notable figures, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, KAA Board Chairperson Hon. Caleb Kositany, EALA MP Hassan Omar, and Mama Ida Odinga.

CS Murkomen, while launching the flight, noted that improved air access will reinforce Migori’s role as a centre for business, tourism, and innovation. “The provision of three weekly flights to Migori, available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, will greatly enhance the ease of travel,” he remarked.

Expressing his optimism, Kimani Ichung’wah said, “This fresh flight route is more than just a linkage; it symbolizes a gateway to rapid economic growth, fuelling the smooth merger of goods, services, and communities .”

While at the event, KAA Chairman, Hon. Caleb Kositany, reiterated the authority’s dedication to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to offer travellers an array of choices and destinations within the nation.

KAA has recently revamped Migori Airstrip, aligning with its objective to connect the region with the burgeoning national aviation sector. The renovation, which was done in 2 phases, included extending the runway from 1.1km to 1.2km & tarmacking it to the required standards.
