Kenya: The President’s Cabinet Advisor on Women’s Rights Agencies, Harriet Chigai, has urged youths to take advantage of the Government’s initiatives, such as the TalantaHela, to monetize their talents for job opportunities and wealth creation.
Speaking during a talent identification programme-launch organized by the Mollywood Media Group in collaboration with the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), the CS, who was the chief guest at the event that was held at the Kenya National Theatre on 17th October 2023 said that the Creative Economy is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world and is immensely contributing to the well-being of millions of young people globally.
“The Creative Economy is contributing immensely to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on poverty reduction, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure,” she said.
The CS further revealed the Government’s commitment towards supporting such initiatives while adding that the Government plays a pivotal role in setting industry standards to facilitate sustainable growth to ensure quality, safety, and fairness within the industry.
At the same event, Joel Wamalwa, the KFCB’s Ag. Chief Executive Officer affirmed the Board’s commitment to collaborating with like-minded partners in initiatives geared towards identifying and nurturing talents among the youths in the Creative sector through ensuring a facilitative regulatory environment that will spur the growth of the creative economy.
He further noted that the Creative industry has the potential to employ many young people, adding that the Board will engage the various stakeholders countrywide to tap and nurture the available talents among the youth for job creation.
“Talent development among our youth is important, and supporting and recognizing their unique abilities and providing the right resources, mentorship, and monetization skills is an investment of our future generation,” said Wamalwa.
Also present at the event were Michael Pundo, the CEO of Kenya Cultural Centre incorporating Kenya National Theatre -KNT, and Dr Barrack Muluka, Government Advisor, Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy, among other key Government officials.
The Mollywood Media Group is a youth-led organization that aims to identify, nurture and monetize talents among youths in the Creative space.
