Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced the members of the team for the national cross country championships. The announcement for the team was done on Saturday, January 25.
The Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Lemarkoko was also present at the announcement event. The championship is all set to be hosted in Eldoret on 8th February 2025.
The Kenya Forest Service hosted the first ever trials for the selection of the teams in Nairobi. The Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Alex Lemarkoko spoke at the event and extended best wishes to the participants.
The participants came from all over the country. The team captain Zebedee Kiprono received the team flag from the KFS officers. He has applauded the role of athletics and sports in improving youth.
These activities are known to promote discipline, hardwork and team work among players. The CCF said that these qualities will help in improving service delivery and personal growth.
The CCF said that the Service working out a way to be able host annual sports events to identify and nurture talents. The trials were attended by several representatives from the Kenya sports fraternity.
Athletics Kenya (AK) was represented by the President Lawrence Kaburu. Kaburu congratulated the Service on registration as an affiliate of AK. With the help of this affiliation, KFS can participate in the athletics events of AK throughout the year.
Kelvin Kariuki emerged on the top of the podium during the men’s 10km race. Meanwhile Caroh Sapunyu was the victor of the women’s race. The 2km men’s category was won by Lampard Mutuku while Jael Serem prevailed in the women’s race.
The four will be joined by 14 others athletes who made the qualifying time and six officials led by the Team Manager CI Mathew Chirchir at the training camp in Kaptagat Forest in Elgeyo-Marakwet County to prepare for the national event.
Also present during the ceremony were the the PSDCCF Charity Munyasia, the Deputy Commandant Wilson Leboo, the Manager of Corporate Communication Department Anne Kaari, Principal Conservator in the CCF’s office Evans Maneno and others officers from AK and KFS.
