Kenya: The Principal Secretary of the State Department of Forestry, Ephantus Kimotho, has urged Kenya Forest Service to lay focus on resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement as a key strategic objective in the growth of the capacity of the Service to implement the 30 percent tree cover target by 2032.
The PS, who was joined by the Ag. Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko spoke during the flagging off of eight heavy duty field utility vehicles purchased through the Green Zones Support Development Project Phase II (GZDSP II) to raise the institutional capacity of the Service by strengthening field logistical and mobility activities in Protection and Security of public forests across the country.
Lemarkoko outlined his commitment to prioritizing modernizing tools of trade and equipment and technology improvement and digitization as key approaches towards improving the operational capacity of the Service in actualizing the target to raise fifteen Billion tree seedlings by 2032.
The procurement of vehicles for forest protection and security through GZDSP II is the fourth part of a multi-phased approach towards improving the transport capacity of the Service, which was preceded by purchasing vehicles for Regional and County Forest Conservators, vehicles for 26 forest stations and; tractors and trucks to aid tree nursery development activities.
