Botswana: The people of the Kweneng District hosted a celebration to honor World Youth Skills Day 2024. The event was hosted on Friday in Lentsweletau village. The youngsters of the village were given the opportunity to showcase their unique skills and talent.
The people of the district came together to commemorate the annual event, which seeks to highlight the important role played by the youngsters of a nation in its prosperity and development. The World Youth Skills Day 2024 is a day recognized and celebrated annually all over the world.
Through this, initiative, the international community wants to attract the national government’s attention towards encouraging the youngsters to acquire critical skills.
The event was under the theme ‘Youth Skills for Peace and Development’. The people of the Kweneng district hosted the event through Botswana National Youth Council in collaboration with UNDP.
The district administration has shared that the aim of the commemoration was to celebrate and raise awareness on the importance of skills development among the youth. The youngsters of the district can play a highly crucial role in the development of their respective communities.
Youth were trained on hard skills like food processing and were also given employability trainings. The Ministry of Education and skill development was responsible for organizing the initiative
The assistant Minister -Basic Education Naniki Makwinja officiated the event. She also encouraged youth to utilize government initiatives to help boost their skills.
She further indicated that the government introduced initiatives like thuo & Temo Letlotlo to help nurture entrepreneurship skills. The commemoration brought a huge impact to Youth beneficiaries as most of them managed to make sales.
At the official conclusion of the ceremony the ceremony councilor for Lentsweletau, Court Tolubu appreciated the government for recognizing youth in his area. He indicated that this shows unity between the government & the society. He further encouraged youth to pull up their socks and make use of government initiatives as they will clearly open their eyes to succeed.
