Zambia: A 31-year-old man of Lavushimanda District in Muchinga Province has murdered his wife for wanting to divorce him. The suspect allegedly attacked his wife when she was having lunch with the children aged 8 and 3 years old.
The Police force has identified the victim as 27-year-old Idah Mutale. She was attacked at the back of her neck while she was having lunch with her two children which resulted in a fatal injury.
The investigating officers have claimed that the couple was experiencing marital issues and disputes which led to the victim asking for a divorce. The suspect identified as Kennedy Kabwe had been married to the victim for one year.
The victim’s father had also promised give the dowry back to him after the couple had divorced. The incident happened on Saturday while the victim was eating nshima with her two children.
The husband asked if she still maintained her decision of ending the marriage to which she responded positively. Afterwards, the suspect immediately attacked and injured her fatally her with an axe on the back of the neck and ran away.
Danny Mwale says police officers who rushed to the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood outside the house. The responding officers rushed the twenty-seven-year-old victim to Mpumba Mini Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer her body has been deposited in the same Hospital mortuary. The police force is waiting for postmortem examination to continue their investigation. Meanwhile a manhunt has been launched in the Lavushimanda District for the husband.
In a related incident, Police in Chifunabuli District, Luapula Province, have arrested a 26-year-old man for murdering his wife.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale says the victim has been identified as 28 year old Racheal Chanda. She was beaten by her husband Nicholas Bwalya around 22:00 hours after which she was admitted at Mwewa Clinic for general body pains. Mwale says the victim however died yesterday 18:00 hours.
He says the suspect is currently detained in custody waiting to be formally charged while the body of his wife is in the Mission Hospital Mortuary waiting for postmortem examination.
