Zambia: Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao has announced that the government will construct a 1by3 classroom block in Mato Village. The people of the community have been asking for better infrastructure in their educational institutions.

The construction of the new facility will be done through the Constituency Development Fund. The funds have emerged as a way for the government to continue taking up developmental initiatives for the people of the nation. The construction of the school facility will help the students in the community get access to better and improved facilities for education.

The members of the government have been working hard to address the needs of the people through initiatives like CDF. The previously present classroom structures at the community school is not conducive for government.

Mbao observed and inspected the dilapidated classroom at Mato Primary School. After his inspection, he concluded that the building is a danger to pupils.

Accordingly, he promised that the government will ensure a new block and a staff house is constructed within the community.

“Other than that, we will ensure desks are brought here and I was looking at the results for some of the pupils and despite them learning in such conditions, their results are very good and it shows that we have brilliant children here,” he said.

Leonard Mbao thanked government for increasing the CDF funding for the communities. He claimed that it has made things easier in meeting the demands of a lot of people like those in Mato village.

Meanwhile, Mato Primary School Acting Headteacher Evans Chanzi expressed concern on the lack of desks and proper classrooms at the school.  Chanzi noted that the school has over 200 pupils from grade one to seven studying in the school. Accordingly, many of them sit on logs and blocks due to lack of desks.

“We also have a challenge with staff houses, our conditions are bad but we are hopeful that government will look into helping us,” said Mr Chanzi.

One of the parents, Esther Chungu called on government to build classroom blocks and a clinic to ease the challenges that the community is facing.
