Malawi: Lilongwe Police police force has arrested an 18-year-old man in Area 36 for robberies. He was found to be in possession of stolen home electronics worth K6 million. The stolen items included four plasma screens and smartphones.
The suspect has been identified as Daudi Suleman and was arrested by the police after they recieved a tip off from community. The Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the arrest.
According to him, the station detectives received a tip-off that the teenager, Daudi Suleman, also famous by the name of Axonke or Two Fresh was selling a 58-inches JVC plasma screen. The sale was flagged as suspicious which prompted the community member to report to the police.
The police arrested the suspect and during the interrogation, he confirmed that he was acting alone. He revealed that he was responsible for breaking into several houses in Area 23 Midland and kaliyeka.
He also led the police to five houses where he had committed the crime. The suspect has previously broken into all five houses.
Police force Lilongwe have recovered the four plasma screens, two laptops, two cellphones and an ipad from the suspect. The culprit was going to sell off all the stolen items illegally before the matter reached the police officers.
However, the police force has since made the arrest and confiscated all the items and returned them safely to the people
Chigalu has confirmed that the recovered electronics have all been positively identified by their owners and will be returned to them. Meanwhile, the suspect will be presented in front of the court for charges.
The suspect will appear in court soon to answer Burglary and Theft charges. The date for the court appearance has not been confirmed, however, the officials have confirmed that the suspect will be sentenced in accordance with the law.
Daudi Suleman is a resident of the from Chilopola Village, Traditional Authority Amidu in Balaka District of Malawi. He has been involved in a number of offenses.
