Botswana: The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, accompanied his wife, First Lady Neo Jane to attend a jewellery exhibition. The event was convened as a premiere of the Lucara Diamond Company’s “Akh-Ba-Ka” Necklace tour.
The premier of the Necklace tour was headlined by Andre Messika, who took the opportunity to highlight his work Botswana, which is known for its diamonds is among the major markets for jewellery designers and jewellery lovers across the globe.
The jewellery exhibition was officiated by the President of Botswana, who extended his support to the country’s jewels industry. He was accompanying a number of international guests, who had graced the event to witness the breathtaking jewellery designs.
The jewellery designer, Andre Messika had been looking for an opportunity to invest in Botswana. He made the decision after seeing the country’s reputation in the international diamond market.
The jewellery merchant visited the president of Botswana with a preposition of investing the country to expand his market. The visit happened in March 2023, and exactly a year later, Lucara Diamond Company launched the official tour of the ‘Akh- Ba-Ka’ in Botswana.
This development is highly significant for the nation as Lucara Diamond Company is a remarkable addition to Botswana’s list of partners. Miss World Africa Lesego Chombo wore the beautiful Akh-Ba-Ka necklace during the Miss World Pageant.
The piece was a special part of the Botswanan beauty’s ensemble when she was crowned with the title during the 71st edition of Miss World. Other international models, such as Naomi Campbell, have also had the opportunity to don the exquisite item.
One of the most significant developments during the launch event was that the local talents also had the opportunity to shine. Mpho Mokgatle, a local jewellery designer, showcased his pieces to the audience.
The jewellery designer is a graduate of the Oodi College Of Applied Arts And Technology (OCAAT) graduate. According to the update shared by the Minister, the event also included musical iterations.
The President shared some glimpses from the event on his social media and called it a resounding success. He hopes for the continued growth of Botswana’s Diamond Industry.
