Malawi: The government of Malawi recently commemorated World Health Day on April 12, with the members of the Health Ministry in attendance. The event was hosted under the theme ‘My Health, My Right’
During the event, the stakeholders of the healthcare sector of Malawi came together for the celebration. The Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi also delivered her address at the event. They also discussed several initiatives that they can introduce for the development of the Healthcare sector.
Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi asserted that her Ministry was committed towards providing quality health facilities for every Malawian. She noted that they are working towards giving the people better quality life.
This mandate of the Ministry of Health which is in line with the Health Sector Strategic Plan (2023-2030). The event was hosted in Lilongwe with several members of the administration in attendance.
The Deputy Minister of Health said, they are working in collaboration with other partners of the healthcare sector. She reiterated that the team was committed to providing quality health facilities and bringing them closer to every Malawian.
The Deputy Minister said that they are using evidence-based interventions or systems such as primary care.
“We want to take this opportunity this year to look back at our health successes that have improved quality of life and to motivate actions to tackle health challenges we have faced as a nation and also at the global level in the past years.”
“We will continue providing good quality health services to the people of Malawi as the right of health is a basic human right,” Daudi added.
The Minister noted that it is critical for all the members of the community to have access to health services. This basic right of the people should not be affected due to financial issues. Accordingly, the team has worked hard to implement initiatives to assist the people.
The World Health Organization has supported the Malawi Ministry of Health with financial and technical support. For this, Minister Halima Daudi extended her sincere gratitude to the international organization.
The Representative of WHO to Malawi. Neema Rusibamayila Kimambo announced that Malawi is working towards achieving WHO’s strategy of ensuring Universal Health Services.
“Its about ensuring that there is access quality health services in terms of the distance of a health facility and financial ability to certain vulnerable and disabled people,” she added.
Malawi healthcare infrastructure is at approximately 50% of what it needs to be. Accordingly, it is important to support the nation as it works to close the gap. Closing the gap will further ensure that people are able to access their human health rights.
The theme of this year’s commemoration was chosen to highlight everyone’s right to have access to health services.
