Mauritius: More than 3,200 households in Ecroignard, Camp Ithier, Camp Marcelin, and the upper parts of Bramsthan (Mauritius) will benefit from an increased pressure of water supply. The improvement is effective immediately, providing a minimum of 18 hours of high-pressure water supply.
The aim of the address is to solve issues such as insufficient water pressure in these areas, sanitation and enhancing the overall water service experience for residents.
The above announcement was made by the Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Soomilduth Bholah on Monday. He was speaking at the commissioning of the Montagne Fayence Service Reservoir in Camp de Masque Pavé.
The event was also attended by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mohammud Zahid Nazurally, the Deputy General Manager (Administration) of the Central Water Authority (CWA), Jean Gaetan Armoogum, CWA personnel.
In his address, Minister Bholah recalled that, for years, water was pumped from a borehole in Belle Rose, Clemencia, to the aforementioned eastern villages. He also spoke of the water scarcity problem related to that water distribution.
Notwithstanding the construction of the Montagne Fayence Service Reservoir in 2020, Bholah indicated that there were bottlenecks in the network of water pipes.
As per him, in order to accelerate the waterworks, the necessary parts were manufactured by the CWA.
He also lauded the CWA for proactively undertaking in-house works through the deployment of the required resources in terms of human capital, equipment and logistics, to relieve the inhabitants in the east from water shortage.
Moreover, Minister Bholah dwelt on the increased demand for water consumption during this festive season and urged the inhabitants of the aforesaid regions to use water judiciously.
Residents of the area are happy with the initiative of the government and consider this as a development. One of the residents said, “It will improve our daily lives, ensuring more reliable access to water and other household needs. This positive change is expected to have wide-ranging benefits and will also improve the hygiene standards and sanitation in the affected communities.”
