Mauritius: Mauritius is all set to host the first-ever COMESA Institutions’ Awareness Workshop in the country. The event will be hosted for two days on April 15 and April 16, 2024.

The theme of the event will be “Economic integration for a thriving COMESA anchored on green investment, value addition and tourism”.

The COMESA Awareness Workshop is being hosted by the collaborative efforts of the various organs of the organization. It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and the COMESA Secretariat.

The administration of Mauritius are working towards sensitising Mauritian stakeholders on the roles, objectives and activities of the institutions affiliated with COMESA. The workshop will also serve as a platform to learn about the opportunities available in the COMESA Region.

During the two day  workshop, the stakeholders will have the opportunity to discuss various key sectors that the Government is promoting. The workshop will also stimulate growth and development in the blue, digital and green economy and services’ sector.

Accordingly, the workshop will help the administration achieve the 2030 vision to transform Mauritius in a high-income country. The Awareness Workshop will be led by the Secretary General of COMESA, Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe.

The workshop will be attended by participants coming from the public and private sectors of the country. Chief Executive Officers of 12 institutions of the COMESA and their teams will be some of the participants.

Further, the presentations delivered during the programme will focus on key programmes and best practices that support mechanisms towards creating a competitive business environment in the COMESA region.

The COMESA Institutions who are participating in the workshop include:

  • African Trade and Investment Development Insurance Agency (ATIDI)
  • COMESA Business Council (CBC)
  • COMESA Clearing House (CCH)
  • COMESA Competition Commission (CCC)
  • Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI)
  • COMESA Monetary Institute (CMI)
  • COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA).

In Mauritius, the event will be open for participants from the various segments of the economy, public and private sectors, Export Promotion Agencies, multilateral development banks, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
