Kenya: Kenya Forest Service has entered into an agreement with an investment company Blue Capital on Wednesday. The two organizations have planned to work together to create, fund and execute several initiatives to restore the ecosystem.

The two organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work towards their shared goal. Blue Capital wants to work towards increasing efforts for forest restoration through climate technology funding. The team is also working to facilitate investments in this nature.

The stakeholders of the two organizations have discussed the significance of the partnership for the achievement of the goals. The Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko believes that through the partnership, the two organizations can combine their efforts to create forest investments.

They can eventually also reap the returns on their investments from the forests. At the same time, they can contribute to climate-positive and improved conservation outcomes. The Blue Capital has been working in this field for several years.

They have come up with interesting AI based technologies such as M-situ while working towards forest conservation. The AI based technology is changing the way that world sees forest monitoring capabilities.

At the same time, they are helping the stakeholders respond to imminent threats facing Kenya’s forests. Further, the partnership also falls in line with the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy 2023-2032.

The Chief Conservator of Forests said that KFS has pledged to cooperating with the private sector to address the climate crisis as a unit.

The Blue Capital, Chief Operations Officer Dan Nguchu also noted that the company wants to promote sustainable forestry practices and projects to enhance their impact on local communities and the country.

He also spoke of the MoU and how his company would be working hard to support the Kenya Forest Service in their shared mandate. The signing of the MoU was attended by a number of  government officials.

The officials include KFS Legal officer Laura Yego, Head of Licensing Jefferson Kitti and Project Development and Resource Mobilization Officer Julius Ekuwam and a team from Blue Capital including George Nguri and Sam Okemwa.
