Zambia: Choma Milling Limited has started producing Eagle Brand Mealie Meals to combat the food shortage in communities. The Zambia National Service is producing the Eagle Brand Mealie Meals through Choma Milling.
On the first day of production, the team had already produced 3000 bags. The progress of the production initiative has delighted the Choma District stakeholders.
The officials have claimed that the production of Mealie Meals on the local level will help the people of the country deal with the shortages of the product. Several members of the community have to spend hours in line to get mealie meal packages.
Often, the supply of mealie meal packages is exhausted before all the people have been served. One reason for the limited supply is that the production plants for the commodity have not been established in several communities.
Accordingly, the Zambia National Service team has been working hard to reverse this situation. Accordingly, Brigadier General Jim Kafumukache recently toured the Choma Milling Limited production facility.
The aim of the trip was to check on the progress and production speeds. He was happy to see the speed at which the facility has been producing the product.
Talking to the officials, the Brigadier General said the production of the Mealie Meal is meant to counter the shortage of the commodity in the district and surrounding areas.
He stated that all Choma Milling outlets and authorized retailers will be stocked with the product from Wednesday onwards. Thus, the people of the communities can effectively deal with the food shortage crisis by getting the much-needed commodity.
Meanwhile, Choma Mayor Javen Simoloka, who was also on-site, expressed hope that the long queues that have characterised outlets that stock Eagle Mealie meals will be a thing of the past.
Simoloka said rural parts of the district will also be able to taste the commodity as more outlets are opened.
