South Africa: The MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Education will, on Tuesday, 13 September 2022, pay tribute to teachers who have excelled in their areas of responsibility at the occasion of the Provincial Installment of the National Teaching Awards.

This occasion will be held at the Nutting House Lodge in the City of Mbombela Local Municipality from 11H00.

The event intends to provide a platform to appreciate teachers who rise above the expected norm by executing their tasks in the best interests of learners and stakeholders.

Teachers are arguably the most important members of our society as they offer an indispensable and vital contribution to educating and imparting the curriculum programme in the classroom.

Through the National Teaching Awards, the Department envisaged that learners would be motivated to become teachers as they witness the good account of dedicated teachers.

The Award Ceremony helps to recognise, appreciate and promote excellence in teaching performance and further encourages best teaching and administrative practices in schools.

It provides teachers with a platform to showcase their good practices and to afford the citizenry of the Province to use the opportunity to express their gratitude to all teachers publicly.

The event will be broadcast live on 15 Community Radio Stations and Radio Pulpit.

It will also be streamed live on the Departmental Social Media Platforms to ensure that everyone within and outside the Province is able to follow the awards ceremony.

This event is sponsored by the Old Mutual Foundation, Telkom, Fundi and Think Teacher.

The MEC for Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba, is very much grateful for the contribution of the 33 000 teachers within the Province who against all odds rise to the occasion to ensure that the fundamental rights to education for the citizens of the Place of the Rising Sun are attained at all times.

“The resilience that was displayed by teachers during the era of COVID-19 and often in challenging circumstances warrants that we set time aside in our busy schedules to express our gratitude to them.

Teachers are the most important members of our society through their vital contribution and service towards educating the nation as well as imparting knowledge, skills and values beyond the classroom.

Teachers are indeed our heroes and heroines who always go the extra mile to create conditions that are favourable for teaching and learning.

Most often, our teachers go beyond their call of duty under trying circumstances to render their resourcefulness as they offer their teaching services to the nation from the cradle to the grave.

We are all aware that some of our teachers have paid the ultimate sacrifice with their precious lives in the quest to deliver quality education to the children of our Province.
