MINISTER MCHUNU AND MAYOR JOHNSON VISIT AFFECTED BAY DAMS

Africa: Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Cllr Eugene Johnson, accompanied by Minister of Water and Sanitation Honourable Senzo Mchunu, visited the Bay’s western water supply dams.

The visit to the affected dams forms part of the Minister’s working visit to Nelson Mandela Bay, which began at the Impofu dam.

At the moment, no water is being extracted from the Impofu dam. However, a contractor has been appointed to move the barge. Once fully operational, in less than three weeks, the dam will produce the 30 megaliters per day it previously produced.

Afterwards, the delegation visited the nearby Kouga dam, where they met the Chairperson of the Kouga Irrigation Board, as well as provincial officials.

Also, at the Kouga Dam, the Mayor and the Minister met a community group from neighbouring towns and were invited to join in the prayer for rain.

The Minister and the Mayor thanked the community for standing in solidarity with all Bay citizens.

The day concluded a the Walmer Multipurpose Centre, where the Minister and the Mayor briefed community members about the work to avert dry taps in Nelson Mandela Bay.
