Minister Toussaint applauds performance of Mauritian athletes

Mauritius: The Mauritian athletes who participated in the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships were welcomed back to Mauritius this morning during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation.

Mauritius: The Mauritian athletes who participated in the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships were welcomed back to Mauritius this morning during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation.

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, and other personalities were present on this occasion.

In a statement, Minister Toussaint applauded all Mauritian para-athletes for their performance during the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships, as well as the coaches and the Federation for the work carried out for several years now. He also expressed satisfaction and joy for the medals won by athletes during these games and those who qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Sports Minister reassured that Government will continue to invest and put all the necessary structures at the disposal of our athletes so that they can excel in their respective fields, especially with the forthcoming Indian Ocean Island Games. He further dwelt on the great potential of all Mauritian athletes and on the support extended to them by Government.

He also expressed the wish that the athletes bring back more medals in the future, whether in Paralympic games, boxing, judo, or weightlifting while hoping to hear the Mauritian national anthem be played in Paris in 2024.

It is recalled that Mauritius won one silver medal thanks to Ms Noemi Alphonse and two bronze medals (Ms Noemi Alphonse and Mr Yovanni Philippe) during the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships. Following their achievements during these Championships, Noemi Alphonse, Yovanni Philippe, Anaïs Angélique and Mr Roberto Michel are qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
