Zambia: The Minister’s Spouses Association has donated essential items for the renovations at the Ndola Teaching Hospital Relatives Shelter. The aim of the donation is to improve the facility’s condition for the benefit of the relatives
The donated items in the list included 20 bunker beds and 40 mattresses, a television set and a stove. The price of all the donated items came down to approximately K200, 000 including the renovation works.
The officials have shared some images from the donation effort. The officials have shared that it is important for the administration to support development avenues especially in the healthcare sector.
Minister’s Spouses Association Representative, Sherly Tayali was trusted with the responsibility to make the donation. Tayali handed over the items to government and reiterated the association’s commitment to supporting under privileged members of society.
One of the Ministers’ wife Tayali highlighted that the association has taken on a nationwide initiative. They are dedicated to renovate patient relatives’ shelters to ensure that people caring for their loved ones in hospitals do not endure additional hardships.
“The shelter, constructed by the Friends of Ndola Teaching Hospital, serves as a haven for patients’ relatives. No one should experience further suffering while attending to their loved ones in the hospital,”Ms Tayali said.
Joseph Phiri, District Commissioner for Ndola, has also lauded the Minister’s Spouses Association for the dedication to improving healthcare support systems.
Mr Phiri said the rehabilitation of the shelter will provide a home for the caregivers as they look after the patients.
He added that many relatives to patients travel long distances to care for their loved ones and that it is important to provide them with a comfortable place to rest.
Charles Mwinuna, who is the Copperbelt Province Health Director,has thanked the government for their donation drive. He said that contributions from the different stakeholders play an important role in enhancing patient care.
