Botswana: President of Botswana Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi has appreciated Botswana Police Service (BPS) for their dedication and commitment towards serving Batswana. The organization has been serving thee people of the Nation for over 140 years.
In commemoration of the same occasion, the president donated 12 horses, three cows and a bull to the BPS. The donation was made on Sunday at Mmatseta. He acknowledged that the BPS is now part of the farming community and needs support to realise their farming aspirations.
The President appreciated Anti-Stock Theft initiative that the organization has started. The initiative is commonly known as Kgomokhumo, which has reduced stock theft incidents across the country.
Dr. Masisi highlighted that the horse donation follows his government’s appeal to companies, business community and individuals to donate resources to the BPS. Several businesses have come forward to support thee Police Service through the “Adopt A Police Station” initiative.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi reiterated that the horses will help in enhancing and intensifying police visibility in towns and remote areas.
At the same occasion, some farmers who attended the ceremony pledged 11 cows to the BPS. The gesture was made with the aim of supporting the donation effort made by the President of Botswana.
Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe, received the donation on behalf of the BPS. At the time, she commended the government’s unwavering support to her Organisation. She particularly thanked the President for the kind gesture and promised that the animals will be well taken care of.
As for the horses, she noted that they will be used to navigate areas where motor vehicle cannot access easily. She said, this will help enhance police visibility through patrols by police officers and Crime Prevention Cluster members.
Further, the donation will also add to the number of horses used in the BPS ceremonial parades.
She noted that the donation came at an opportune time as the BPS desires to emulate other Police Organisations in the region who are actively engaged in farming for self-reliance.
Commissioner Marathe also thanked the government for donating a ranch at Ramatlabama where the Organisation will embark on stock rearing and other farming activities.
