Mauritius: Mrs Juselle Sinove Govinden who was born on 21 June 1925 has joined the league of centenarians in Mauritius after she celebrated her hundredth birthday. The celebration was hosted in the presence of the elder’s family members, last Saturday, at Rivière des Anguilles.
The Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Hambyrajen Narsinghen and Member of National Assembly, Roshan Jhummun attended the celebration for the newest centenarian of the country
The Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity in the government of Mauritus has shared that they gifted a cheque to the new 100 years old elder. The gift cheque amounts to Rs 26,203 and is was accompanied by other gifts like a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal and a certificate and a Mixer Grinder.
Senior Citizens Council gave the newest 100 year old in the country a present on her birthday. Mrs Juselle Sinove Govinden also received a Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund in cash which is a tradition to honor centenarians of the country. The birthday girl received a traditional Special Telephone Service from the Mauritius Telecom.
According to the authorities, Govinden was born and grew up in Curepipe. Her father, Mr Leonard Louis Goinden, was a self-employed tailor, while her mother, Mrs Marie Regina Romain, was a self-employed seamstress. They begot four children, two sons and two daughters.
Mrs Juselle Sinove Govinden has been at school up to Standard VI. She was also a seamstress and was civilly married to Mr Antoine Joseph Govinden on 21 November 1947. Her husband worked as a watchman at the Benares Sugar Estate.
The couple was living in Curepipe, then moved to Colmar, Britannia and finally settled in Batimarais, Riviere des Anguilles. They were blessed with one daughter who passed away in 2014. Mrs Govinden is being cared for by her son-in-law, Mr Regis Gabriel.
Mrs Govinden has two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She attributes her longevity to hard work and to her unconditional faith in God.
