Botswana: Ministry of Youth Gender Sports and Culture hosted a cancer awareness session on Pink Tuesday. The session was aimed towards spreading awareness regarding breast and prostate cancer among men and women of the country.
The Month of October is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month all over the world. The aim of the event is to spread awareness regarding the various types of cancers.
Thee healthcare stakeholders of the nation can also discuss the precautions and actions that can be taken to prevent loss of life. The healthcare stakeholders hosted the Pink Tuesday in honor of the event.
The officials have shared that the event was attended by several experts of the field, who were given the opportunity to address the gathering. The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture was proud to organize the event.
Family physicians Dr Soriletsile and Dr. Sedio from Victorious Living Medical Clinic delivered the keynote addresses at the event. The medical experts discussed the various types of cancers with the MYSC Staff.
Dr. Sedio explained that the prevention of cancer depends on many factors. One of these is understanding risk factors such as family history, age, and lifestyle choices.
The doctor said that understanding and altering these factors can significantly reduce negative outcomes.
She explained that cancer is the uncontrollable growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body which can invade surrounding tissues and disrupt normal bodily functions, she went onto encourage attendees to go for regular check-ups and to always monitor their bodies for any minor changes and take immediate action.
Dr Sedio emphasized the importance of early detection when it comes to cancer. He also discussed the variety of treatment options available, which are chemotherapy, radiation as well as excisions.
The attendees wore pink while participating in the Cabcer themed discussion session. This is because pink is the recognized color for breast cancer, highlighting the commitment to raising awareness for this critical issue.
