The Namibia Police Force has successfully arrested a serial rapist after the victims recognized him and confirmed his identity. The police force was looking for the suspect for almost a week by the time the victims recognized him.
The suspect had allegedly assaulted several minor children in the area of Ongwediva and Oshakati. The police force was investigating the cases for over a week. According to the NamPol Community Affairs officer Warrant Frieda Shikole, the suspect was arrested on Friday, October 20, 2023. The suspect faces several charges of rape.
According to Shikole, all the victims that the suspect chose to violate were minors. As a part of their investigation, the police called on four victims who filed reports against the suspect. They took part in an identification parade under the directive of the police force.
According to the NamPol Community Affairs officer, “The alleged suspect was positively pointed out by the victims through an identification parade held at the Oshakati Police, Identification Parade Room,” she said.
She added that he will be charged formally in all four cases.
The official revealed that the suspect is in the system for previous rape cases. Accordingly, he is a habitual criminal. Previously, he received warnings on two different Rape cases involving minors. As per the police officials, he committed these offences while he was under the age of 18.
Further, the police force also has an arrest warrant in his name for two matters of Housebreaking. To add to the criminal record of the suspect, the police officials also found some stolen property in his possession.
One social media questioned how the suspect was able to roam free even after committing so many crimes. The suspect has been in the eye of the law enforcement authorities for several years.
The Police force of Namibia have shared that the suspect is expected to appear in front of the Oshakati Magistrate Court in relation with the multiple rape charges in due course.
