South Africa: The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is proud to be hosting the National Youth and Elite Boxing Championships, which are currently taking place at the NMU Missionvale Campus.
The event provides amateur boxers with the opportunity to improve their skills, compete and gain confidence.
Speaking at the National Championships opening ceremony, the Portfolio Head for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Cllr Bassie Kamana, said that “By nature, boxing is about participation, inclusion, and citizenship.”
“It stands for human values such as respect for your opponent, acceptance of binding rules and fairness,” said Kamana.
“I am standing here today, at the National Championship opening ceremony, representing NMBM as the MMC of SRAC, an institution whose agenda is developmental, to reassure you that as the Metro, we commit ourselves to support events of this nature as they boost sports activities,” he said further.
“Today, all nine provinces are gathered here, at the City of Action, and we too are hoping that we will see action-packed bouts that will produce pugilists who will emulate great boxers from this region,” Cllr. Kamana said.
The National Youth and Elite Boxing Championships began on July 5, 2022, and will end on July 11, 2022.
