Mauritius: Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Naveena Ramyad recently convened a half-day workshop on Sustainable Tourism Certification – Blue Oasis. The event was hosted on Thursday with the aim of educating the tourism stakeholders of the country about sustainable tourism practices.
The event aimed to encourage the stakeholders of the Mauritian Tourism Sector to get certification in sustainable tourism practices. The conveners of the workshop wanted to encourage the tourism stakeholders to advocate for principles that preserve environmental integrity.
They were educated on ways to uphold socio economic viability, and cultural authenticity while maximising tourist engagement. The economy of Mauritius derives a large part of its revenue from the tourism sector.
It is the most important contributors for the economic stability and prosperity of the nation. Accordingly, it is important for the government to continue to work hard and educate them on the correct practices to ensure constant development in the sector.
The event was attended by a number of high level officials of the government alongside Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Naveena Ramyad.
The Chairman of the Standards Council of the Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB); Mr Sanjiv Mulloo; the Director of the MSB, Mrs Loveetah Chummun-Bhujohury; and other personalities, were also present.
The workshop was organised by the MSB for the development of the tourism sector. The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Naveena Ramyad delivered a brief address at the event.
During her address, the minister appreciated the role of MSB in developing the Sustainable Tourism Management System – Blue Oasis. The Minister asserted that they have done a remarkable job with the initiative even though they are primarily a technical institution
Further, the minster of tourism talked about the importance of sustainability. She called on the stakeholders to include sustainable practices for the development of tourism in Mauritius.
The officers also shared some glimpses from the workshop to reflect on the success of the initiative. The Chairman of the Standards Council of the Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB); Mr Sanjiv Mulloo also delivered a brief address at the event. He asserted that sustainable growth of tourism will reflect its legacy for future generations.
