Phunge. The Officer Commanding briefed the General Officer Commanding on the programme of the day. After the presentation, Major General Thituwi Edward Mulaudzi was then given the honour of opening one of the Unit’s buildings that they renamed. This building is utilised as an auditorium for the Unit, and it was called “Siyavana Madoda”, which had no significance according to the current Officer Commanding of the Army Support Base Johannesburg. When Colonel T. A. Chabalala took over this Unit four months ago; he took it upon himself to change the name of this Hall to ensure that it represents the Unit well.

The Hall, which is now called “Sedibeng”, was then unveiled by the General Officer Commanding the SA Army Support Formation, Major General Thituwi Edward Mulaudzi and the Officer Commanding Army Support Base Johannesburg in honour of the newly appointed General Officer Commanding of the SA Army Support Formation.

Colonel A. T. Chabalala explained the significance of renaming the Hall Sedibeng, meaning “natural fountain”, that Army Support Base Johannesburg is situated in the Vaal area named after one of the longest rivers in South Africa, the Vaal River.

“The Vaal River is known as a main source of water for many dams and industries. Similarly, Army Support Base Johannesburg is a source of hope and support to the Reserve Force Units in its vicinity. “We serve as a fountain to these Units. Sedibeng Hall will remind us to be on our toes to assist and serve the Units and more than 20 clients in the Gauteng region,” he said.

Major General Thituwi Edward Mulaudzi addressed the members of the three Units with the intention of introducing himself as their new General Officer Commanding. He was well-received and welcomed by the members. They even sang songs for him expressing their joy and warm welcome.

Closing the program of the day, the Officer Commanding the Army Support Base Johannesburg and the two Acting Officers Commanding General Sipho Binda Field Workshop and General Andrew Masondo Maintenance Unit handed over gifts to their new General Officer Commanding appreciating his visit to their Units.

The Officer Commanding, the Army Support Base Johannesburg, then took the new General Officer Commanding on tour around his Unit to highlight all challenges that he must take note of and include in his action plan for the SA Army Support Formation.
