South Africa: In an effort to rid Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (STLM) of the illegal infestation of drugs, our Municipal Law Enforcement Officers have continually been investigating any suspicious activities taking place in and around the municipal jurisdiction.
In this regard, during a random search on Thursday, 27 October 2022, around Iraq Taxi Rank, a male suspect was arrested for being in possession of Nyaope and an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to information submitted by our officers who arrested him, he was spotted dishing out these drug parcels to the Nyaope addicts at the taxi rank.
“On observing this act, I stopped the vehicle and requested to search him. He had a bag around his waist, which I discovered contained Nyaope packs and stacks of money, said the SAPS officer.
Furthermore, he stated: “The suspect disclosed that he was from Dundonald. I handed him over to the Middelburg SAPS, who charged him for possession of 246 packs of Nwyaope”, disclosed our officer.
MMC for Safety in the Municipality, Cllr Bathobile Shabangu, commended the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers for a job well done.
