Zambia: A couple allegedly locks up their 2-year-old twin children in the house while they go on a drinking spree at night. Community members in Mazabuka’s Kaleya Station in the Riverdale area have unearthed the case.
The people have expressed their disappointment with the actions of the couple and called the couple out for being unfit parents. The residents of Kaleya Station believe that the parents abandon the children without supervision.
The situation may be unsafe for the children to be kept in such a condition. One of the residents, Francis Makala, said he had witnessed two occasions of the couple locking up their children.
Makala stated that he has attempted to rescue the children with the help of other community members. However, the father of the to the juveniles was defiant, hence the community is appealing to relevant authorities to come to the aid.
Other community members who spoke collectively stated that it was heartbreaking to see the children locked up while the parents indulged in imbibing alcohol, hence their futile attempts in trying to rescue them.
They also noted that the children are sometimes left without food, with community members coming to their relief in that aspect.
However, the Social Welfare Office in Mazabuka say they have to conduct an investigation before they can comment or take action on the alleged incident.
The social media users have also come forward to offer their opinion on the matter. The people have suggested the parents must employ a maid or nanny to take care of the children while they enjoy.
In other circumstances, the parents can buy a 5 litres container and enjoy beer at home. The officials of the social services have been involved in the incident and have agreed to start an investigation.
If the parents are found guilty of negligence with the 2-year-old children, they may not retain the custody of the children. The people of the country have appreciated the officers for their intervention, which will benefit the people.
