South Africa: A 23-year-old female lying on the road after being run over by a truck was robbed of her cellphone in Ottawa – KZN. The incident happened on Tuesday sometime after noon.
The Victim was found by a member of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), who was on patrol in the area at approximately 13:07 Hours. The reaction officer also saw a Powerstar water tanker approximately 200 meters away from the victim.
Seeing the circumstances that were presented to him, the reaction officer established that the pedestrian was crossing the road when she was run over by the truck. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
The woman was lying on the road, injured after the collision with the Powerstar water tanker, waiting for assistance. At this time, the victim was robbed of her Huawei Nova cellphone by two (2) males.
The robbery was witnessed by a passerby who stopped to assist. He provided Reaction Officers with a description of the thieves, but they could not be located.
The injured woman was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance. Meanwhile, the driver of the Powerstar water tanker has also not been located so far.
The investigation into the matter has started and the people of KwaZulu Natal have also condemned the truck driver for his actions. Notably, since the vehicle that was involved in the hit-and-run was parked on the site of the incident, it is possible for the officials to track the suspect down.
The people of the country have extended their support to the victim who has been through the ordeal. The people wished for a speedy recovery for the victim.
Meanwhile, some people shared that the incidents of robbery and other criminal offences are increasing in the absence of adequate punishments. The people demand that there should be provision for stricter punishments for the people.
