St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew urged to continue to shape a modern and progressive nation. They must have honest and mature conversations about the industries that are part of the evolving way of life, such as the cannabis industry.
PM Drew stated that they cannot be reckless or take shortcuts. They have to be responsible and do the things right way. According to him, any approach they take must be guided by strong laws, proper oversight and a clear commitment to public health and safety.
They will further proceed carefully. And will ensure that any integration of cannabis and the build out of a strong Cannabis Industry, into the society is done by the book, with respect for the people, the values and the future. Their progress must always be responsible.
While speaking on the same during the National Assembly gathering on March 31, 2026 Prime Minister Drew made it clear that the government has taken historic steps to recognise the rights of the Rastafari community and reform outdated laws. It has done so with a deep understanding of the potential risks that are associated with mismanagement.
PM Drew further stated that they are being responsible with how they introduce cannabis as part of the way of life in St. Kitts and Nevis and it has to be done responsibly.
Dr. Drew further underscored that the legislative framework of the government strikes a deliberate balance. It protects constitutional rights while it also ensures that systems are in place to prevent abuse, economic disruption, and harm to citizens. He noted that the administration has moved decisively to ensure that Rastafarians are able to practice their faith freely, without fear of criminalisation.
The Prime Minister cautioned against any actions that could undermine the financial stability of the country, particularly in relation to international banking relationships. He stressed that adherence to the law is not optional, but it is essential to maintain confidence in the financial system of the federation.
