Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit has shared an update on the ongoing works on the Salisbury Box Culvert Crossing. The prime Minister has shared that he has been keeping track of the new developments in the projects.
The works on the road construction works are nearing completion as part of the ongoing Road Edge Rehabilitation Projects. The roads under the construction are situation along the E.O. LeBlanc and Nicholas Liverpool highways.
The Prime Minister has shared some videos and images from the ongoing work of the road rehabilitation. He said that he is satisfied with the pace of the project and will continue to oversee the progress.
In October 2024, the government of Dominica signed contracts with the Caribbean Concrete Ltd for seven key interventions. These interventions include:
- Road Edge Rehabilitation in Belles
- Bioche Retaining Wall
- Rehabilitation of the Hillsborough Box Culvert
- Box Culvert Crossing at St. Joseph
- Road Edge Rehabilitation in Penrice
- Roger Retaining Wall (Imperial Road)
The contractor employed for the rehabilitation project; Chris Walter of Caribbean Concrete Ltd. (CCL) has shared an update on the works progress in Salisbury. The project contractor has shared that they started their work on the Culvert Bypass in December 2024.
So far, as of February 25, the work has been 70 percent complete and going at a reasonable pace. The Contactor highlighted that he had worked hard to make sure that the construction completes in the next month, that is March 2025.
Further, the contractor also recalled the challenges that they face in the construction project in the last three months. He recalled that in December 2024, the island had heavy rains which disrupted work for some days.
They also had to construct a diversion bypass to allow for flow of traffic across the road being constructed. At first, Chris Walter said, they had constructed a smaller bypass thinking that it would suffice.
However, the bypass failed, and an alternative bypass had to constructed in its place to allow work to go on uninterrupted. The contractor from Caribbean Concrete Ltd claimed that this is the safer way to allow work to progress smoothly.
The company was happy to note that they were given the independence to create their own design and get approved from the Ministry of Public Works.
