St Kitts: Dr Terrance Drew recently attended a distinguished panel of speakers at a high-level side event hosted by UNAIDS. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the Minister of Health is currently in New York for the 79th edition of the United Nations General Assembly.

The officials have shared that the focus of the meeting was on the theme, Revitalised Multilateralism: Recommitting to Ending AIDS Together. AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is a chronic condition which damages the victim’s immune systems.

One of the most common source of transmission for the virus is unsafe sexual activity. During the meeting, the health stakeholders all over the world discussed ways to eliminate the disease.

The disease, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome can also transmit from an infected mother to her child. The health stakeholders all over the world are working hard to prevent and eliminate this particular mode of transmission.

In this regard, Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that St Kitts and Nevis is one of the nations who have successfully achieved the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. He gave the credit of this achievement to the members of the country’s healthcare sector.

The Prime Minister said that it is due to the efforts of the healthcare stakeholders that they are able  to ensure that the members of the country are able to enjoy better healthcare. He also thanked the regional and international partners who have worked together to achieve this most notable result.

The Prime Minister shared some images from the high-level side event hosted by UNAIDS and noted that he learned significant lessons from their interaction with other notable health officials and leaders.

The Prime Minister appealed that the world has to continue efforts to fight HIV/AIDS. The world has seen significant development in this regard in the last few years. PM Drew noted that they have seen several positive developments through our collaborative international efforts.

The Prime Minister highlighted that  the efforts must continue in their fight against HIV/AIDS and world leaders should not become complacent. The people of the country have applauded Dr Drew for his efforts in this regard and hoped for his continued success.
