St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis met with the Premier of Nevis, leader of the opposition, Mark Brantley to discuss geothermal energy. The two leaders sat together for a bilateral meeting to discuss the development of geothermal energy in the federation.
The bilateral meeting was done through Oom and facilitated by the Minister of Energy, Konris Maynard. The administration has shared some images from the meeting on social media pages.
The two leaders, have been looking into opportunities for collaboration for the development of green energy in the federation. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, Premier Mark Brantley spoke to other stakeholders in Barbados.
The meeting was focussed on the future of renewable energy in the country. The meeting was attended by several other stakeholders of geothermal energy development.
The attendants included, Director-General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera. A delegation from Iceland was also present at the meeting. The members of this delegation include officers like Maria Marelsdottir, Ambassador for Climate Change.
Nott Thorberg who is the Director of Green by Iceland, and Sveinn Hannesson, CEO of Iceland Drilling also sat in on the discussion. The St Kitts and Nevis leadership, has emerged as a major stakeholder in the renewable energy sector.
The Geothermal Power Plant, which is being developed in the island of Nevis, will be transformative for the people of the nation. The international stakeholders acknowledge the significance of this development. As such IRENA and the delegation from Iceland have pledged their support for geothermal development.
The geothermal project which is being developed in Nevis will be able to help and service neighbouring island states. Nevis can, after meeting their personal needs, also assist the other Caribbean island nations in reducing their dependence on traditional fuel sources.
The IRENA organization has promised to provide help, guidance, and expertise, including training for local officials in geothermal-related fields.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, sitting in on the meeting reaffirmed that the government of the federation is committed to this project. The federal government and the Nevis Island Administration will work together as partners to get the geothermal project off the ground.
