Mongu, Zambia, South Africa: A family of three perished yesterday while enjoying their leisure time at King Lubosi Imwiko II in Mongu. The trio died in a swimming expedition.

Maybin Chilongo, who was working as a District Water Development Officer under the Water Resources Development department in the Mwandi district, has died with his two sons.

Late Maybin Chilongo is believed to be originally from Mufulira town.

The mother, who has been left in trauma, recounts that the son initially plunged into the river and failed to swim; when his brother observed that he was failing to swim, he dived into the stream to help him, but he also became a victim of battling with his own death.

During the rescue, the Father dove to save his two sons from the jaws of death. Unfortunately, the Father died as a result of failure to swim.

The mother, who is pregnant, started calling for help, and the fishermen came with their fishnets and retrieved the lifeless bodies. The bodies were found holding each other, trying to save themselves.

The wife was left crying for help through out the river.

When BWD contacted Police for a comment, they stated that they will provide a detailed statement on the matter.

Locals are very saddened by the premature loss of life. They said they will pray for the repose of their souls.

One of the residents said, “We do not know or judge our destiny; the family never thought that this will be their last family time, and I am feeling sad for the lady because she was pregnant and enjoying her phase, but sadly, it becomes distressed for her and her life got totally opposite for her. The wife was left crying for help throughout at the river.”
