South Africa: The Premier of the Free State province, Mxolisi 6Dukwana, held a meeting with senior officials at OR Tambo House Yesterday, 28 March 2023.
Premier Dukwana implored officials to prioritize service delivery and warned that those who don’t want to work will be harshly dealt with. The Premier further appealed to officials to work together, and not as individuals, in their quest to address service delivery challenges.
“Essentially, what was key was to remind ourselves what is at stake, and that is the general well-being of the people of our province. We put emphasis on the need to get rid of the ‘silo’ mentality and rather work as one functional unit. The meeting agreed that it will serve us no purpose to work as individuals, but working as a collective will bear incredible results,” said Premier Dukwana.
In the meeting, he said, it was a commitment by officials to work together for the greater good of the province. “I was pleased with the spirit of unison displayed and the commitment to put all our strengths to good use for the benefit of the Free State province and its people,” he said.
The community outreach programmes, which were kickstarted in Edinburgh a fortnight ago, will become a regular feature moving forward.
“We also took the opportunity to remind colleagues of our commitment to visit various towns every Friday to not only clean our townships and villages but also to lend an ear to the people about their everyday challenges. All members of the executive council and senior officials are expected to be part of these outreach programs. Never again shall it be that people struggle to access services while officials, whose job it is to ensure that those services are provided, show little to no interest in our people. It stops now,” he warned.
Premier Dukwana once again appealed to the people of the province to work with the government in addressing the many challenges facing the Free State.
“As I have previously said, I refuse to make any promises to the people of the Free State. I would rather we work, and the people will be the judges. There is a lot to be done, and I am making a humble plea to everybody who would like to see this province prosper to join us on this all-important mission of building the Free State we desire.”
