Juba, South Sudan- President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday joined mourners at Juba International Airport to see off the casket of the late lawmaker, Retired Gen. John Masua Madanza, who passed on earlier this week in Abyei Administrative Area while on a government mission.

While speaking to the Press at Juba International Airport, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, said President Kiir described the late Honourable Masua as a great liberator who will be remembered for his contribution towards the Independence of South Sudan.

Late Honourable John Masua had travelled to Abyei with other members of the Council of States Adhoc Committee, who were dispatched on a fact-finding mission following a violent dispute between Twic and Ngok Dinka communities.

Masua will be laid to rest in his home town of Maridi, Western Equatoria State.

According to the family of politician and national lawmaker John Masua, Mandaza passed away when he was on a peace mission in Abyei Administrative Area on 7 November 2022 (Monday). He died at the age of 73.

As per the information from Eye Radio, he was part of the investigation team which was dispatched to Twic and Abyei with the motive of investigating last month’s conflict between the neighbouring communities.

However, the cause of his sudden demise is still unknown.

He was not only the commander but also a politician, especially in the time of the Bashir regime, until he was selected as a governor of Western Equatoria State.
